The Labor party and the Abbott Government have teamed up in the Senate to wave through the governments savage cuts to childcare.
“Labor and the Abbott government have ripped thousands of dollars from the pockets of Australian families, at a time when parents are already struggling to meet the rising cost of childcare,” the Greens' childcare spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
“Over 150,000 parents are set to lose thousands of dollars in support due to the Labor party teaming up with Abbott to support these cuts.
“Families are already struggling to make ends meet and these cut will only make things harder.
“These changes are an attack on Australian families who have already been disproportionately affected but this governments cruel budget.
“With a tax to go to the doctor and an increase in the cost of childcare, this Budget will significantly increase Australian families’ cost of living.
“If Labor and the Abbott Government want to encourage women to return to the workforce, they need to stand behind affordable childcare.
“We must do more to directly assist families, not cut the very funding that supports them.
“The government plans to reintroduce legislation to freeze the indexation of the Child Care Benefit, the Greens will vote to block these harsh changes in the Senate.”
