Aussie parents to have their say on childcare

The Greens launched a national childcare survey today, at www.childcarepoll.com, giving parents around Australia a chance to tell their stories about the experience of enrolling their children into care.

“We want to hear what mums and dads across the nation have to say about what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to finding quality, affordable care for their children” Greens’ childcare and early education spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“We’ve heard what the Minister and the politicians have to say, but now it’s time to hear from the parents who are out there juggling kids and jobs as best they can.

A Greens survey of childcare centres was released on Sunday and the resulting figures made it clear that, in the last three years, waiting lists had grown and the number of available spaces had shrunk.

“This is a chance for Australian parents to tell us where they think the pressures are and how things could be improved, especially in regards to childcare availability and workforce participation.

“Talking to mums and dads is an obvious and necessary step in making sure Australia can offer our youngest citizens the affordable, high quality and flexible childcare they deserve.

“While Tony Abbott wants to put the brakes on rolling out quality care and the Gillard government won’t fund it, the Greens have their ear to the ground and are working hard to ensure that quality care is available for all Australian kids.

“I encourage all parents across Australia to log on to www.childcarepoll.com, take the survey and have their say.”
